How would you explain that a completely indpendent band – with no help from major labels, influent promoters or renown booking companies – has a résumé consisting of a Brazilian tour, an European tour, over 100 shows played in Portugal; as well as records released in Japan, Europe and USA, a video on MTV, video reports on national TV, some highlight on punkradiocast online radio station and shows with bands like No Use For a Name, Ignite and Streetlight Manifesto?
The sum of an addictive sound with catchy choruses, melodic guitars, lyrics concerning everyday life, a live show with plenty of energy and a good work capability may be a possible answer. The rising of very well-known bands like The Offspring, Green Day or Rise Against, are the living proof that melodic punk-rock has a great potential and can actually please the taste of every single person.
The band began as Defying Control in 2005, resulting from a previous project that featured some members of this band. Nowadays, after a couple of lineup changes, DC consists of Killer on bass and vocals; Francis on guitar and backup vocals; Andre on guitar, backup vocals and production; and Luis on drums. The band is currently writing their next album but intents to keep playing shows all over the world.
Hence, Defying Control follows a precise path – even though bumpy sometimes – looking forward to write the next chapter of the band’s story while working untiringly to make their sound reach every human being.
"Have you ever wondered what it'd sound like if Saves the Day never turned awful and if the punk music that was popular on MTV in the 90s actually went in the right direction after all? Basically, it'd sound sort of like the melodic punk group Defying Control from over in Portugal." - http://idleandthebear.blogspot.com/
- www.http://vianocturna2000.blogspot.com
"What Defying Control manages to do is replicate that overall thick, melodic sound, but without coming across as being almost a rip-off as they are able to inject enough of themselves to allow the music to stand on its own two feet.
So, the music is pretty good and I enjoyed their invigorating approach as it is certainly well-executed." in Punknews by Rich Cocksedge
"Hailing from due South in Portugal, Defying Control examines two cultures through their love of music. Taking the rapid-fire sound of modern punk rock and adding their own personal spin to it, Defying Control wants to pick you up... and well, frankly, never let you down." in Absolute Punk by Chris Fallon
“Only the intro make us wonder about what's coming next, it's really powerful! What follows is a load of powerfull Punk rock, some times faster, other times slower, but always very well produced. Also you'll find some melodic singing, wich fits incredibly great! The voice is very very good, and the instruments are awesome as well, the drums kick ass and the guitar blows!
I'm in position to say that this is an hell of an album and I strongly advise you to grab it as soon as you can!" – www.myspace.com/punkfactory
"Here’s a band that have the technical aplomb, the necessary punch and the baggage to really become a mainstay in the European melodic hardcore circuit. ”Reflection” is one of those powerful, intense blends of fast-paced melodic punk interlaced with heavier elements and softer moments that totally gets your blood pumping. Pretty damn good." - www.europunk.net
"...está bem feito e há aqui boas ideias bem executadas. Bem mais interessante do que o que algumas bandas Portuguesas andam a fazer sob a designação de Punk Rock. Ao todo são pouco mais de 33 minutos divididos em 10 faixas direccionados para quem gosta do material dos inícios da Epitaph e da Fat Wreck, ou seja, aquele Punk Rock bem rápido e com muita melodia..." - (80/100) - www.fenixwebzine.blogspot.com
